HI,

another question.
We played a war two nights ago and and when it was finished, it started over again.
Now yesterday evening it seems there was suddenly war not active anymore. Nobody changed anything on the server.
Does it happen, if nobody is on the server the war stops working?
I didn't use the option to enable war automatically with a certain amount of players. So I wonder. Also I try this morning to start war again and it does not work...

Looks like I missed something somewhere?

when the server is with normal public config, when you spawn you will receive this message:

Frontlines Server v4.1


then you need to exec war_server.cfg to make the War Server loaded into the server, you can do that by hand, or just add the line "exec war_server.cfg" at the end of frontlines.cfg file.

then at any spawn, the player will receive this message

Frontlines War Server v4.1 [Offline]


which means the War Server was loaded, but the War isn't started yet.

since you setted the var ws_start_at, the war will ONLY start when you have this amount of players on the server, otherwise the status will be always [Offline]

for exemple, if you set ws_start_at 16... you are playing a normal rotation match and the server got 16 or more players connected at the END of the match, then will start the war...

will appear the War Scoreboard with the initial status of the War in the end of the last normal match, and the next map the war will be Online, and to any player that Spawn, will apears this message:

Frontlines War Server v4.1 [Online]


there's no way to a war start just after the other automatically, you probably are at the SAME war and don't figure out that isn't finished yet...

after a war finish, you need to exec war_server AGAIN to reload the War Server, because will comeback to the default config after the end of the War...

another thing which is very important, NEVER change any var about the rules of the War in the middle of a War, or you can simply destroy his logic, causing bad behaviours...

please, learn to use the War Server with the default configs first, then start to change to create your own wars... if you config the War wrong, it will never work...

try it again let me know if works now, if not... please post your configs that I'll take a look...

thanks for your explanation.
I think I got all right.
I set the var ws_start_at to 0 so it should not depend on the base of players. Maybe I should set it to 2 to ensure ther server is always running in War mode.

I thought when the scoreboard tells us that one site won the war is over...?
At least the bottom bar was to the most left also.

We started with creek again, which is still my config.

the count numbers are wrong... must be 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8...

first warning:

it's the Armies soldiers... with just 600 men will be really VERY difficult to get the enemy's Commander, probably some team will lose all their men in the middle on the battlefield very fast, specially that have respawn gametypes into your War...

BUT, I saw that you added a very easy way to get reinforcements, and a good number of men in each one (80)... then I believe it will work...

but probably both teams will get reinforcements very fast and could make them never stay out of men... and will cause a really long war...

a good formula to find this value is:

smallest Army = 100
size x 100 = 800 (since your bf is 8)
# of respawn gametypes x 100 = 100

then 100 + 800 + 100 = 1000


so 1000 it's a good number for this battle...

don't make the reinforcements much easier to get, this could cause infinity number of reinforcement... this MUST be difficult to get it... and don't put more than 10% of the full Army as reinforcements, this will help keep the balance...

but of course, this it's all like YOU want... you can set a Army with the double of men of the other, but with easier way to get reinforcements, etc, etc, etc...

just remember to keep the balance to both sides, if you give more to some team, take it other thing from them, and goes on... :wink:

second warning:

this is not a problem also, but sounds little weird... :lol:

the VIP is located so away from the Commander and too close to the first territories of the team, so also his shortcut...

so will be almost impossible to get that shortcut in the attacking field.... in this way the shortcut is almost ignored... since you need to win 3 in streak to get it, but the VIP is already the #3 map...

the only way to get this shortcut is via a counter-strike, like the enemy have control of half of your territories, then you will won back 3 in streak, then you will jump to their VIP location... if this is really your intention, np... you can create the wars the way you want... :D

but if not, I recommend to put the VIP around map #5 or #6, and also to add more wins in streak to get reinforcements and the VIP shortcut, like 3 and 5 respectivelly... since the war have a larger battlefield then those few exemples which come with the mod. :wink:

but again, this will work fine in your Way, not problem at all... :wink:

yeah, when apears a msg saying the war is over, is because is really over, the next map was one from your default rotation (random in the default config) and for luck or not, was the same as the first map of you War... that's normal... don't worry, isn't another war until you say so... :wink:

when you spawned probably showed this:

about let the ws_start_at 0 or 2... remember if one team left, the war will be over... and you will comeback to have the server in normal way...

I recommend put this value around 16, then the war will ONLY start when you have enough players to play it until the end...

but for tests or wars that you know that players will connect to play with you, you can set this off... and will always start on the next map... :wink:

and another stuff which is in the Tutorial, after the War is over... WAITS to change the map to clean the War vars to start a new war, if you not wait he will simply keep the same stats to the next war, what is very wrong.... :lol:

I never thought that someone will want a server 24hs with Wars over and over, I'll start to work into something to this work automatically in next versions, sad that we don't have the exec command into mod tools, or I'll could until rotate wars in the server... :lol:

but for now, the only way to start a new war is exec war_server again. :wink:

Makes more things clear to me.

Yeah I thought it would be even possible to run diufferent wars one after the other, not just repeat the same all the time.
I mean this is a great mod and I really like. In special the WAR mode.
I come from wolfet, so I am a campaign and objective player initially :wink:

Hmmm, one more question, abou the weapoon mode setting. I had the problem to have only pistols as VIP without ammo and you said we would need 6 players to change or disable the weapon mode.
Would there be a chance to set this value ourselves?

you can run how wars you want, one after another... but after war is over, you need to run another by hand... can't be automatically... :cry:

not exactly, there's the SIZE rotation... where you set which maps will want to use when have a number of players in the server... and also is set the weapons modes available in each one and their gametypes...

so by default config, will always pick one map, one weapon mode and one gametype from this config... in a RANDOM way from the available lists...

here are the default Weapons settings of each size (ordered by size):

( at frontlines_weapons.cfg you have detailed information about that )

since you said is playing Bash Mode, which is #1... see that he is only available at SMALL rotation, which is set to play with until 6 players on the server...

you can just remove #1 from this list, and the weapons modes that you don't want...

OR you can stop the RANDOM weapons modes at the same file at ALL rotations doing this:

then will always have a kind of Weapons in your server, which the default is:

which is all weapons available... :wink:

in the War Server, the default config turn off Weapons Mode, then all weapons are available in the war... but of course, you can set a full war with Rifle only for exemple if you want... :wink:

you can also turn off the Size Rotations, but I don't think is smart not work this great feature that avoid a TDM into shipment with 40 players or a SD with just 2x2 at mp_burg... :lol:

to turn it off do at frontlines_maps.cfg:

Hi Hajas,

I updated our server to the last version too now.
FInally found some time.
As I am not able to play myself atm, as I only got a laptop and my PC is down (PSU), I asked my clanmates to test it.
Yet no feedback, but server was crashed this morning.
I am running war09.cfg so nothing special.

I will monitor this.

But, my main question is related to this topic :wink:
Is there still no way to automatialy start one war after the other?
For example in the war_server.cfg?
Adding more than one line with exec warxx.cfg

Oh, is there also maybea way to start different wars from ingame command line?
So that an admin can choose a different war to play after the first one?

Cheers and thanks again for your great work, most members told me they had a blast to play this mod :D

the crash propably was caused by a bad map, it's 100% the causes of crashes at my server too... take a look on the console log for the error, if you restarted already the server, this was replaced and you will lose the error.

you can use the Hajas Server Scripts to save all the logs, from error until data for use in the Ultrastats.

about the War, still not possible let the running a war after another... sorry.
but also with Hajas Server Scripts you can have one different war per day... :wink:

and YES, you can have MANY wars at your server to let you choose which one you want to play on that moment, they don't need to be called as "war_server.cfg" + "warXX.cfg"...

you can merge those files and rename to anything you want, like myclan_war01.cfg, myclan_war02.cfg, myclan_war03.cfg, etc...

upload all of them to the server and please REMOVE the exec war_server.cfg from the frontlines.cfg file, remember to NEVER load 2 or more wars into the server, or he will mix them and will cause a bad behavior.

then when you want to play a server, just do this for exemple:

Thanks for your help.

About the crash, well only the standard map are running on this server and only your rotations. NOthing changed about that in the config yet :D

I will have a look to your scripts, wasn't aware of them.

And thanks for the advise wth the different wars.
THe comand to load a war was exactly what I was looking for, so I don'T need to take care about this :wink:

I hope I will have time this weekend for going deeper into this.

strange, or is the killhouse bug which can't happen in the original config aside with human input, or was another bad command by an admin... rename the error log next time before restart the server, then take a look there and you will know what caused the crash.
