War with random maps?

Postby Nizztos on Tue Oct 13, 2009 9:22 am

I'm rather new to CoD, but me and a few friends are doing our annual LAN this weekend and we usually run CoD 4 at least part of that time (we are all noobs and only play CoD twice a year on our LANs). I stumbled across this mod and though it looked like a good alternative to just doing team death match over and over.

I have played around with it a bit trying to understand how to use the configuration files (also for standard CoD as I have never played with the configs). One thing I have not been able to do and it is something we would want/need is to run a war over random maps/game types and just use the number of lives to determine which side wins. Is this possible or do we need to set up a list of maps for each side? The problem with that type of game for us is that if our teams are, which I hope they will be, fairly equal we will just play the same 2-3 maps over and over depending on which side wins.

Is this possible or does it go against the spirit of the mod?

hmmmm... you just want to play random maps/gametypes/weapons/etc... but have the War Server control of the number of soldiers, and in the end who have more soldiers wins, or who just eliminate the other team first.

you of course know this will never work with any objective gametypes, since doesn't count conquest anything, but just frags... will be a kind of Team Deathmatch War... right?

War Server was designed to work like a real war, advancing and retreating, completing objectives to get the enemy General's head, so you must setup the battlefield to make sense.

about playing over and over the same maps, you can setup a battlefield with ws_level 6 for exemple, and add a VIP path to your War, this will make you jump maps if a team wins a little more, or not if wins just one battle... and if you really want to play TDM over and over, will get boring fast IMO... even without the War Server...

I recommend you to design a nice battlefield with very different objectives to each side, lots of soldiers, then will be a lot more fun trying to destroy the other team's defense to conquest a territory...

I have several new wars at my server, I can send you some really nice wars... just give me the number of players that will play on the LAN, and for how many hours aprox...

for now, if you want to play just TDM over and over, is better not use the War Server, and let the regular server choose the maps and everything else randomly to you.

Thanks, thats what I thought.
Yes, it would just be away to keep score over a longer time. Say 10-15 games or so.

If you have any scripts for about 12 players I would love to try them.

ok, I'll need to make a war for you since 12 is a little small number, but I'll add more respawn gametypes and will be more fun... do you like more Marines vs OpFor or SAS vs Spetsnaz?

The sides doesn't matter much to us. I think that if I had to pick I would go SAS vs Spetznaz. Your support in this is very much appreciated.

Yes I know that 12 is a small number and not something you would see in an online game, but we have great fun on our LANs. Part of that is that we only play once or twice a year, so we dont have the chance to grow tired of the games :)

Hello,

I created 2 wars for you...

war_12.cfg
war_12_vip.cfg

both wars are very dinamic with respawn gametypes! the second have a VIP quest while the other don't. the order of the maps and gametypes are different too.

upload both to you server at mods/Fronltines

on the frontlines.cfg remove the call line below:

Code: Select all
exec war_server.cfg

run your server like always... the server will load and you gonna play for fun until you want to play a War.

when you want to start a war, go to console que type

Code: Select all
/rcon exec war_12.cfg (or war_12_vip.cfg)

then this will start on next map...

feel free to change the names of the teams, add tags to each team to let you divide the teams prior to balance them or will be divided just by luck...

after this war ends, waits the next map to load to run another war... or will mix both configs and you cause bad behavior...

have fun and enjoy!

Thanks for the script.

We did try this, but unfortunately we ended up in a situation where we were just going back and forth between two maps. This could have been adjusted by game types or max number of soldiers, but it was the last thing we did so there was no time for that. It was fun though and for next time we could probably come up with some tweaks to make it work for us.
